The 48th WorldSkills Competition took place in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026. As the world's premier vocational skills event, it has long upheld the "One School, One Member" tradition of pairing local schools with international teams to promote skill-sharing, cultural exchange, and youth dialogue. During this year's competition, Shanghai Textile Industry Workers' College proudly partnered with the delegations from Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
On the morning of September 22, WorldSkills delegations from Saudi Arabia and Egypt visited Shanghai Textile Industry Workers' College. Faculty members introduced the school's industry-focused programs and showcased outstanding student works. The guests then experienced two traditional Chinese cultural activities: making Hanfu and practicing calligraphy.
During the calligraphy session, international students tried the full process—from preparing the brush to writing—and each created their own "Fu" (福) character, a symbol of good fortune in Chinese culture. Everyone took photos to commemorate the experience.
At the Hanfu-making station, guests stitched traditional Chinese garments under the guidance of craft instructors. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere helped bring everyone closer, laying a solid foundation for future exchanges.
Participant Interviews:
-Abdelrahman (Egypt): "I experienced traditional Chinese calligraphy and was captivated by its charm. I also got to see the energy and vibrancy of Chinese youth."
-Albatool (Saudi Arabia): "I tried making traditional Chinese clothing today—it was so much fun and one of the highlights of my trip."
Shanghai Textile Industry Workers' College paid close attention to every detail of the "One School, One Member" exchange, from planning and rehearsals to on-site coordination. Faculty and students provided bilingual Chinese-English guidance throughout, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for the visiting delegations.
The event helped build connections among young people from different countries and laid the groundwork for future cooperation in vocational education. Meanwhile, the college's Fashion Technology technical support team was on standby at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, contributing to the success of the 48th WorldSkills Competition.
