This January, Shanghai International Fashion Education Center (SIFEC) welcomed 19 Russian students for an immersive cross-cultural experience. Co-hosted by the China Campus Network (CCN) and SIFEC, this winter camp aimed to explore Chinese language and culture, with fashion as the bridge.
The students engaged in a range of activities over several days, blending education with cultural exploration. Through language classes, they learned everyday Chinese expressions, while cultural experiences such as studying the Chinese zodiac and enjoying traditional songs deepened their connection with China's heritage.
A highlight of the program was the Fashion Draping Workshop, where students learned garment construction fundamentals and draping techniques. Under the guidance of SIFEC instructors, they gained hands-on experience in 3D patternmaking, offering a glimpse into the creative world of fashion design.
The students also explored Chinese calligraphy, learning brush techniques and creating pieces centered around the 2026 Year of the Horse. This workshop offered an artistic journey into the elegance of Chinese writing, with comparisons drawn between Chinese and Western calligraphy.
Beyond the classroom, the students explored Shanghai, visiting landmarks like the Bund, Yu Garden, and Shanghai Museum. They sampled local cuisine and toured universities, sparking an interest in pursuing further studies in China.
This winter camp not only deepened the participants' understanding of Chinese culture but also attracted international talent, fostering collaboration in education and innovation.
SIFEC will continue to promote international education, offering a global platform for aspiring fashion professionals. As an accredited institution and member of the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI), SIFEC programs facilitate international exchange, cultivating fashion talents with a global perspective.
